I’m guessing you’ve received a message on your system notifying you of a runtime error 216. For the vast majority of people, they have next to no idea of how to fix this problem. For you, on the other hand, you have me. It’s not a problem that you alone cannot fix. The runtime error is a Windows database issue. It occurs within the operating systems database, and isn’t too difficult for you to resolve by yourself.
Notifications of this error will typically popup whenever you attempt to run a Windows based application like Internet Explorer. There are so many symptoms attached to this error, with the most annoying one being slow system performance.
System crashing is just one of many symptoms, but is without a doubt the most potent, which is why it’s in your best interest to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
This error commonly occurs in virus infected systems. So if you are getting this error, then it’s more than likely you have a virus. The “SubSeven” Trojan virus has been most linked to this problem.
Rectifying this issue is not complicated, so you needn’t panic. The first thing that you should do is reboot your system and load into Safe Mode. To do this, hit the F8 Key after the POST (Power on Self Test) then select “Safe Mode”. Loading into Safe Mode is very important because of share file violations, which will otherwise prohibit you from removing the virus from your system in a normal Windows environment.
Once your system has booted up, you’ll have to run your antivirus software. It’s very important that you have good antivirus software on your system. Personally, I recommend AVG Free, and that’s because it’s very thorough and is constantly being updated with the latest virus definitions. Another application I recommend is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and that’s because it has a habit of finding those infected files that all other virus scanners miss. So to be on the safe side, be sure to download and install both of these applications on to your system.
In addition to scanning your system with the recommended antivirus/antimalware programs, a registry cleaner program should also be used. Your registry is basically a database that stores information on every program on your system, so whenever you add or install something, an entry is created within your registry, the drawback of this is that over time, your systems database can become clogged up with a number of invalid entries (entries to programs that no longer exist on your system), which can lead to system slowdowns and freezing.
So, because of the nature of the registry, and its vulnerabilities, it’s very important that you make provisions to ensure that it’s always running optimally. In this case, you’d want to run a reliable registry cleaning program such as SpeedyPC Pro. You can find out more about this program from the link below:
